MORUGA FIRE THIS MORNING - TWO PRESUMED DEAD
The Moruga community is in mourning after news that an eight-year-old girl and a female relative perished in a fire at their home at Fifth Company Village, Moruga Road, Moruga on Friday.
According to reports fire officers responded to a call and found the house on fire around 2:00 am on Friday morning.
Upon investigating, firefighters found the bodies of eight-year-old Aaliya Primus and 40-year-old Nisha Gopaul, by the upstairs kitchen of the two-storey home.
It appeared that they had been trying to escape the flames.
As a result of the fire, 10 people are now homeless.
Moruga/Tableland MP and Minister in the Ministry of Education, Lovell Francis, called for the community to come together in prayer.
"This is a sad morning. A fire at the home of the Gopaul Family at Fifth Company Village Moruga Road has claimed the lives of two family members. I am asking for your prayers of comfort for this family in their time of need," he said.
