AKEEM REID'S KILLER TO APPEAR BEFORE MAGISTRATE
A Tunapuna man is expected to appear in the Tunapuna Magistrates’ today, charged with the August 1 murder of Akeem Reid.
Joel Burnette, aka ‘Cranky’, 38, of Basanta Trace, Tunapuna, was charged with murder, after advice was received from Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard on Tuesday.
Reid, 26, of Henry Street, Arouca, was run over with his own vehicle during a confrontation with a group of men at St. John’s Road, St. Augustine August 1.
The accused allegedly got into the victim’s vehicle and drove it at him and his friends during the altercation. Reid was struck, before falling into a ravine.
The victim was rushed to hospital, where he died later that day.
A 37-year-old man from South Oropouche appeared in court on July 24, charged with the murder of 17-year-old David Sancarro, arising out of a similar incident.
Burnette was charged by Cpl Dexter Bernard of St. Joseph CID.
